How to Find a Charlotte Home That Aligns with Your Love of Music

Author:  Jamie Milam

Here's some great news if you love music and are looking for a home in Charlotte, North Carolina: this city is a music-lovers paradise. Whether you're into indie dive bars that feature local artists or sold-out arena tours—there's something for you! Many Charlotte neighborhoods have awesome music venues, making them an ideal choice for concert-loving prospective homeowners. There are also a lot of commuting options in Charlotte, making it easy to get around to see live music.

I believe in creating a life of alignment. And one way I support my real estate clients is by asking questions about what they love, need, and desire in their lifestyle. I've often heard from clients that one of their favorite pastimes is that they love to check out live music or want to be close to concert venues. With this information, I can help them choose a Charlotte neighborhood that aligns best with their desired lifestyle.

So, if you're a music-lover looking for a home in Charlotte, here are some amazing neighborhoods and venues to check out.

Charlotte Neighborhoods for Music Lovers

Charlotte is a great city for live music and concerts. There are a few large concert venues in Charlotte where you can catch all the big names that come through the city:

  • Bank of America Stadium: Located in Uptown, the BoA stadium seats over 74,000 people and draws big names like Sting, Shakira, and Metallica.
  • Spectrum Center: Also in Uptown, the Spectrum Center seats over 20,000 people and hosts artists like Kacey Musgraves and Brooks & Dunn.
  • PNC Music Pavilion: This epic outdoor venue has a capacity of 18,500 and has hosted icons like Coldplay, Kings of Leon, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Who.
  • The Fillmore: Smaller than some of these other venues, at 2,000 capacity the Fillmore offers the perfect intimate yet "big" live music experience.
  • Bojangles Coliseum: With room for 8,000 guests, the Bojangles Coliseum is a great spot to catch a show.
  • The Belk Theater: Designed by renowned architect Cesar Pelli and featuring a contemporary European horseshoe arrangement for world-class acoustics, the Belk Theater is a fantastic venue for live music and theatre alike.

If smaller, more intimate shows are more your style—you're in luck! There are tons of smaller venues offering live music throughout the week so you can get out on a whim and discover something new.

Let's break down the Charlotte neighborhoods with live music venues you might want to check out when searching for your next home.

Charlotte Neighborhoods with Live Music Venues

There are a lot of things to consider as a prospective homeowner searching for your dream home, and lifestyle is a big one. If you're a music lover, you'll definitely want to know how accessible music venues are from your new house! Here are some Charlotte neighborhoods with live music venues to check out during your house search:

NoDa

Short for North Davidson, NoDa is the winner for the most walkable live music venues—hands down. As the art and entertainment district, there's always a lot to do in the area, and is a great option for a fun night out with live music.

NoDa music venues:

  • The Evening Muse: Small, intimate venue that hosts a wide variety of music from Americana to blues, hip-hop, and jazz. They also host other acts (artists, comedians, poets), serve a variety of drinks, and hold open mic nights every Monday.
  • JackBeagle's NoDa: Neighborhood bar and restaurant with live music on the patio and open mic nights every Wednesday.
  • Neighborhood Theatre: Originally built in 1945, this restored venue is a popular and lively music venue in NoDa with a diverse line-up of acts. It's standing room only to view the show, but as a former movie theater it has a convenient upwards slope away from the stage, maximizing the view for all. Drinks are available at this venue.
  • Blackbox Theater: One of my personal favorites for EDM shows! They have a full bar-with the most efficient bar lines if you ask me- and occasionally host food trucks outside.
  • Crown Station Coffee House & Pub: Go for a coffee or a beer while enjoying live music! They host regular events like open mic (Tuesdays) and Karaoke (Thursdays) along with live music performances on the weekend.
  • Thomas Street Tavern: This local pub has a great indoor-outdoor space. They have lots of live music options, from Monday night DJs to Reggae nights, and live bands.

Plaza Midwood

Plaza Midwood is a trendy neighborhood known for its nightlife, restaurant scene, and boutique shops. There are lots of low-key bars and intimate venues to check out!

Plaza Midwood music venues:

  • The Rabbit Hole: Small and intimate, this historic venue offers everything from grassroots to fun to EDM. They host "Mambo Fridays" for those who love to get their dance on!
  • Skylark Social Club: Your classic dive bar with darts and pool tables, alongside regular shows by local rock bands.
  • Tommy's Pub: A fun local bar with live music and open mic nights throughout the week.
  • Snug Harbor: Nautical-themed venue that hosts a variety of local and regional artists. Entry cover fees are low cost, and shows are typically every Monday to Saturday night.

SouthEnd

SouthEnd is another popular nightlife spot in Charlotte. With a number of craft breweries and pubs, it's a fun place to go out with friends. There are also some great live music spots!

SouthEnd music venues:

  • The Music Yard at Southbound: This is the spot for some great food and music together. Grab some tacos at Southbound first, check out a concert, and then finish the night at their speakeasy Backstage Lounge (if you snag the password to get in from their IG page!)
  • Amos' Southend: Low-key venue hosting artists from a variety of genres and styles (past artists include John Mayer, Chris Stapleton, and Snoop Dogg!). Food is available at The Gin Mill, located in front of Amos' Southend; ticket holders get 20% off.
  • Goldie's: Featuring a full menu, this is a great spot to grab a bite to eat and a drink and enjoy some awesome live music. Shows are offered throughout the week, and DJs are often on the weekend. They also host periodic open mic nights.

Uptown is Charlotte's "downtown" and central business district. But it's not just a place to work—there are a lot of fun music venues to check out as well!

  • Middle C Jazz: A go-to for jazz enthusiasts, this venue hosts performances from local and renowned artists alike. Craft cocktails and small plates of food are available throughout the show.

Ballantyne

As a suburban area, Ballantyne has a more laid-back vibe and doesn't offer as much throughout the week. That said, there are still options for families to get out for a night as well!

Ballantyne music venues:

  • Bradshaw Social House: This lively hangout has happenings all week long, from trivia nights, karaoke, live bands, and DJ nights. Full food and drink menu available.
